The DCI training section was established in 1999 and in 2018 it was upgraded to a directorate, headed by Director Training. 

Functions
  • The effective management of the section
  • Preparation of Annual Training Projection.
  • Conducting Training Needs Assessment
  • Coordinating professional and capacity building courses at the training Institutions in liaison with the Heads of such institutions.
  • Organizing training seminars/workshops for DCI officers
  • Coordinating the implementation of Training Programmes.
  • Coordinating overseas courses.
  • Liaising with the KPS, APS and other security arms on matters of training.
  • Coordinating the development/review of DCI training curriculum for various Courses
  • Member of Ministerial Training Committee
  • Secretary to DCI headquarters Training Committee

About

The establishment, development and growth of Criminal Investigations Department can be traced to the evolvement of the Kenya Police to which it remains one of the key formations. The first police officers were recruited in 1887 by the Imperial British East Africa Company, I.B.E.A. to provide security for stores in Mombasa. It was from these humble beginnings that the Kenya Police was born.
