Public Complaints

This Directorate is responsible for receiving complaints from the members of the public.  The Directorate is based at then DCI Headquarters Nairobi.

Members of the public are informed to physically visit the public complaints offices to present their complaints for investigations or write to the Director, Directorate of Criminal investigations. P.O BOX 30036 – 00100, Nairobi. Or email: director@dci.go.ke.

Services Offered By The Public Complaints Directorate
  1. Receiving and recording all complaints made at DCI Headquarters and advising on the appropriate action to be taken.
  2. Receiving and investigating complaints against police made at DCI headquarters as directed by the DCI.
  3. Receiving complaints and conflicts of interests reported against police officers.
  4. Providing feedback to members of public on the progress of investigation of complaints and the outcome once investigation is completed.
  5. Members of the public are also advised to lodge their complaints in any Regional Criminal Investigations Offices, County Criminal Investigations Offices, Sub-county Criminal Investigations Offices or Police Stations.
  6. The public complaints office does not handle complaints that are civil in nature.

About

The establishment, development and growth of Criminal Investigations Department can be traced to the evolvement of the Kenya Police to which it remains one of the key formations. The first police officers were recruited in 1887 by the Imperial British East Africa Company, I.B.E.A. to provide security for stores in Mombasa. It was from these humble beginnings that the Kenya Police was born.
