DIRECTORATE OF COUNTER VIOLENT EXTREMISM (CVE) 
Functions 
  • To develop sustain and operationalize National Police Service policy to Counter Violent Extremism;
  • To engage the stakeholders to ensure the widest contribution and consultation to develop policy and strategy on PCVE;
  • To engage and consult with Regional and International best practice, to compliment the development of Counter Violent Extremist policy;
  • To provide advice and guidance to National Police Service on CVE counter-measures commensurate with the strategy of people centered police service.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Raising awareness and improve the public understanding on terrorism related issues among youth and adults within our local communities as a way of preventing and countering violent extremism ;
  • To provide guidance to partners, departments and agencies with specialized knowledge and experience in different aspects of Countering Violent Extremism;
  • To appropriately direct the research team to develop topics and methods  vital in preventing and Countering Violent Extremism and formulation of appropriate policies
  • To participate in National/International meetings that examines the topic of Violent Extremism 
  • To collaborate with local stakeholders and partners in developing capacity and physical protection measures to Counter Violent Extremism;
  • Preparation of reports on CVE for National Police Service and relevant MDAs;
  • To promote community outreach programs and engagement as vital component of National Police  Service on PCVE &strategy;
  • Any other assignment as directed by the DCI.

About

The establishment, development and growth of Criminal Investigations Department can be traced to the evolvement of the Kenya Police to which it remains one of the key formations. The first police officers were recruited in 1887 by the Imperial British East Africa Company, I.B.E.A. to provide security for stores in Mombasa. It was from these humble beginnings that the Kenya Police was born.
