This is a unit within Directorate of Criminal Investigations Department. NCB-Nairobi is the focal point for all INTERPOL activities involving General Secretariat, Regional Offices, INTERPOL member countries and local Law Enforcement Agencies (L.E.A) requiring assistance in foreign country investigations.

Functions of NCB-Interpol
  • Exchange of criminal intelligence from other INTERPOL member countries. 
  • Harmonizing extradition of fugitives to and from Kenya in accordance with the existing extradition treaties and through diplomatic channels.
  • Translating messages received in French, Arabic and Spanish language to English language.
  • Liaising with INTERPOL member countries, the General Secretariat, Regional Bureaus and other government departments on requests made by Judicial Authorities and other Police Services.
  • Providing operational police support services in terms of technical assistance e.g. ‘’Operation Usalama’’ and “Operation Fagia OPSON”, SIMBA, etc.
  • Liaising with police officers and government bodies in capacity building, attending symposiums, seminars and conferences organized by INTERPOL. e.g. EAPCCO Organs meetings, Environmental organized meetings, human trafficking workshops, AFRIPOL, etc.
  • Assisting in follow up of criminal investigations.

About

The establishment, development and growth of Criminal Investigations Department can be traced to the evolvement of the Kenya Police to which it remains one of the key formations. The first police officers were recruited in 1887 by the Imperial British East Africa Company, I.B.E.A. to provide security for stores in Mombasa. It was from these humble beginnings that the Kenya Police was born.
