Introduction

The FCIO Railways Nairobi office is situated along the main Railways terminal buildings opposite the Kenya Railways Police Station and housed within Formation premises.

Roles and Core Functions of DCI Railways Formation 

  • Collect and share criminal intelligence to safeguard Kenya Railways Corporation’s property and interest on stations, platforms, trains (commuter, passenger and cargo), workshops and goods on transit.
  • Undertake investigation on crime against property or persons conveyed over the Railways and roads by the Kenya Railways Corporation throughout the Corporation areas of operation, including claims, complaints or irregularities in connection with conveyance of goods, passengers, missing goods and accidents on Railways.
  • Detect and prevent crimes, including terrorism and organized crimes within Kenya Railways Corporation jurisdiction.
  • Maintain law and order, apprehension of offenders at the Kenya Railways Corporation stations throughout the Republic.
  • Protection of wild animals and their trophies in the parks.
Command

The Formation has eight Sub Counties covering the entire Railway line from Mombasa Port to Malaba border. These Sub-Counties include;

  • Nairobi Railways Sub-County.  
  • Nakuru Railways Sub-County
  • Kisumu Railways & Port 
  • Kilindini Port Sub-County
  • Mombasa Railways Sub-County 
  • Mtito Andei Sub-County
  • Nairobi Terminus Sub-County
  • DCI Inland Container Depot Naivasha (ICD)

About

The establishment, development and growth of Criminal Investigations Department can be traced to the evolvement of the Kenya Police to which it remains one of the key formations. The first police officers were recruited in 1887 by the Imperial British East Africa Company, I.B.E.A. to provide security for stores in Mombasa. It was from these humble beginnings that the Kenya Police was born.
