Led by Mr. Renson Ingonga, Director of Public Prosecutions and Mr. Mohamed I. Amin, the Director of Criminal Investigations, the Kenyan delegation included key officials from various security agencies. This visit was particularly significant as Kenya prepares for the withdrawal of U.S. financial support for JTTF operations scheduled for September 2025, emphasizing Kenya’s commitment to sustaining its counterterrorism efforts.

Key takeaways from the exchange included:

     1. Data Sharing:

The New York JTTF has developed a comprehensive counterterrorism database that facilitates real-time information sharing among member agencies to address threats swiftly.

    2. Funding Structures:

The US model is fully supported by the Department of State, highlighting the importance of consistent funding for effective operations, a vital consideration for Kenya moving forward.

    3. Intelligence Integration:

The integration of intelligence into prosecution efforts is crucial for converting insights into actionable legal evidence.

    4. Strategic Planning:

Presentations covered various aspects of US counterterrorism strategies, including tackling terror financing and enhancing inter-agency collaboration.

As Kenya navigates the upcoming funding transition, the insights gained from this exchange will be essential in shaping future counterterrorism strategies. This collaboration not only strengthens Kenya’s commitment to national security but also reinforces the partnership between the two nations in the ongoing fight against global terrorism.

About

The establishment, development and growth of Criminal Investigations Department can be traced to the evolvement of the Kenya Police to which it remains one of the key formations. The first police officers were recruited in 1887 by the Imperial British East Africa Company, I.B.E.A. to provide security for stores in Mombasa. It was from these humble beginnings that the Kenya Police was born.
