GREENING THE MAZINGIRA COMPLEX

To mark the Mashujaa Day Celebrations, The Deputy Director DCI Mr. John Onyango SAIG, led a dedicated team of detectives from various directorates in a significant tree-planting initiative at the Mazingira Forest Block based at the DCI headquarters.

This effort aligns with President Ruto's ambitious directive to increase Kenya’s forest cover by 2032, which includes a commitment to plant 15 billion trees. It further underscores the importance of environmental stewardship and highlights the role of government agencies in addressing ecological challenges.

During the event, Mr. Onyango emphasized the critical need to nurture the newly planted trees noting that the success of this initiative hinges not only on the act of planting but also on the ongoing care and attention these trees will require as they grow.

His words resonated with the audience, reinforcing the shared responsibility that each individual bears in promoting a healthier environment.

Also addressing the gathering was the Director Reforms, Research and Innovation Development Dr. Philip Ouma, PhD, who expressed his gratitude to the officers for their unwavering commitment to preserving the environment.

He praised their participation in this initiative, noting that it reflects a collective effort towards a sustainable future. His remarks served to inspire further engagement among the officers, reinforcing the idea that environmental conservation is a shared mission that transcends individual roles.

The event also saw Mr. Ndiema, the Director of Personnel commend the officers for their collaboration during the tree-planting activity. He encouraged the establishment of more such initiatives that foster teamwork and comradeship among personnel from different directorates.

His call for greater interaction and bonding among officers highlighted the importance of unity in achieving organizational goals, especially in initiatives that benefit the community and environment.

Among other senior officers present were Deputy Administrative Secretary, the Director of Legal Affairs, the Director of Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB), the Director Liaison and Corporate Communication (L&CC) among others who represented their respective directorates.

About

The establishment, development and growth of Criminal Investigations Department can be traced to the evolvement of the Kenya Police to which it remains one of the key formations. The first police officers were recruited in 1887 by the Imperial British East Africa Company, I.B.E.A. to provide security for stores in Mombasa. It was from these humble beginnings that the Kenya Police was born.
