NATIONAL FORENSIC LABORATORY HOSTS EAC HEADS OF BALLISTICS
A delegation of Heads of Ballistics from East African Community member states have today visited the National Forensic Laboratory's Ballistics Section in a benchmarking session, organized by Interpol.
The Director Forensic, Ms Rosemary Kuraru, graciously received the Ballistics heads from Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi and South Sudan, with the head of the Rwandan ballistics section attending the meeting virtually.
After a brief presentation on the operations of the National Forensic laboratory services, the guests visited the Ballistics lab for a learning experience, where our ballistics experts ingeniously explained the operation of the intricate equipment in detail, including the Integrated Ballistics Identification System(IBIS).
The Director Forensic acknowledged the importance of such meetings, noting that they'll go a long way in ensuring that forensic laboratories within the East African Community (EAC) are well-equipped with modern equipment that will offer solutions to complex criminal cases.
The Ballistics heads will also be discussing implementation of an Integrated East African Ballistics investigation network with funding from the European Union, to be implemented by Interpol in partnership with the EAC, with the ultimate goal of sharing ballistics information in the region to combat cross border crimes.
Also present in the meeting was the Head of Interpol Regional Bureau of East Africa Mr. Apollo Afrika and other National Forensic Laboratory Unit heads led by the Officer in Charge Ballistics, Mr. Lawrence Nthiwa.
