DIRECTOR AMIN ADDRESSES SENIOR COMMANDERS AT NPS LEADERSHIP ACADEMY

In a significant address to foster excellence within the National Police Service, Mr. Mohamed I. Amin, the Director of Criminal Investigations, has urged senior police officers to remain committed to transforming the National Police Service (NPS) into a world-class policing institution.

This call to action was delivered during a session with 80 senior officers currently participating in the County Commanders Strategic Leadership Course, held at the National Police Service Leadership Academy in Ngong, Kajiado County.

During his address, Director Amin emphasized that the ambition to achieve a distinguished police service hinges on the unwavering adoption of core values such as justice, integrity, equity, participation, accountability, openness, and civility.

These principles are essential in ensuring that the NPS delivers policing services that are not only effective but also respected by the communities they serve.

Highlighting the critical nature of effective policing in today’s society, Amin encouraged the County Heads to actively foster multi-agency cooperation and to embrace innovative technological solutions as part of modern crime-fighting strategies.

He pointed out that as criminal behavior evolves, so too must the methodologies employed by law enforcement agencies.

"The dynamics of modern crime require a smart, adaptive approach. Criminals are quick to utilize emerging technologies to facilitate their illicit activities, and it is imperative for law enforcement agencies to deploy advanced investigative techniques that effectively counter these threats," he stated.

Additionally, Academy Commandant Mr. David K. Mathiu, AIG, expressed his confidence in the direction the National Police Service Leadership Academy is headed.

He highlighted the institution's commitment to becoming a premier center of excellence in training police officers. The focus is on instilling the highest standards of competence, integrity, and discipline through a curriculum built on quality education and thorough research initiatives.

The five-week County Commanders Strategic Leadership Course is designed to enhance the senior officers’ strategic leadership competences. Its goal is to facilitate effective coordination among various policing functions, thereby creating a sense of synergy and cohesion among senior officers from the Kenya Police Service (KPS), Administration Police Service (APS), and the DCI.

This collaborative approach aims to strengthen the overall policing strategy for the greater good of the communities they serve, ensuring a safer and more secure environment for all citizens.

About

The establishment, development and growth of Criminal Investigations Department can be traced to the evolvement of the Kenya Police to which it remains one of the key formations. The first police officers were recruited in 1887 by the Imperial British East Africa Company, I.B.E.A. to provide security for stores in Mombasa. It was from these humble beginnings that the Kenya Police was born.
