CLOSURE OF THE SEXUAL AND GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION COURSE AT NCIA

An interagency Training on Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Crime Scene Investigation that brought together 25 participants drawn from three government agencies; the National Police Service (NPS), the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP), and the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has come to a close today at the National Criminal Investigations Academy (NCIA) in Nairobi.

The week-long training, which was sponsored by the German Federal Foreign Office through GIZ, focused on building the Agencies' capacity to address the surge in Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) cases, through the proper handling of crime scenes.

The Director DCI, Mr. Mohamed Amin, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the German Government and the Federal Foreign Office for their generous support in funding the invaluable initiative. In his address delivered by the Commandant NCIA, Mr. Sospeter Munyi, the Director noted that the German Government's commitment to enhancing the Agencies' capabilities in addressing SGBV is instrumental in our ongoing fight against these heinous crimes.

The Director commended the participants' dedication and active engagement throughout the course, remarking that their willingness to learn and grow is a testament to their commitment to justice and the protection of the vulnerable members of our society.

On his part, the Commandant challenged the participants to utilize the knowledge imparted on them, stressing on the need for collaborative effort in the quest for smooth prosecution of SGBV cases. While taking pride in the NCIA's identification as a Regional Center of Excellence, the Commandant pledged to scale up the Academy's capacity to hold more of such courses, underscoring their critical role in streamlining the criminal justice system.

Notable guests present at the closing ceremony included Instructor Tom Nyabuti, GIZ Kenya Representative Mr. Ulrich Janen and Course Facilitator Mr. John Ayres, among other senior officers.
