Detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) has intensified crackdown on narcotics trafficking, arresting three suspected drug traffickers in separate intelligence-led operations across Homa Bay, Nairobi and Mombasa.

In Homa Bay County, a joint team of detectives from DCI ANU Homa Bay and officers from Oyugis Police Station arrested Carren Adhiambo Akoth, who had been on the run after detectives recovered 91.94 kilograms of cannabis worth approximately Sh2.76 million from her residence in Oyugis on June 14, 2026.

The suspect vanished after the seizure, but detectives kept the trail alive. Through sustained investigations and actionable intelligence, they trailed her down to her hideout, where she was arrested. She is expected to be arraigned in court to face charges related to narcotics trafficking.

In a separate operation, detectives from DCI ANU Isiolo, acting on credible intelligence, arrested Ramadhan Wache, a booking clerk responsible for receiving parcels at a bus company office in Nairobi. The suspect, who had been hiding in Eastleigh, is linked to a narcotics trafficking case following the interception of a consignment of suspected narcotic drugs at the Archers Post checkpoint on August 5, 2026. He was escorted to Isiolo Police Station and is being processed ahead of his arraignment.

Meanwhile, in Mombasa, detectives sprang into action after the management of a bus company reported that a sack declared to contain dried cassava had split open while being offloaded from a passenger bus, exposing 15 packages of suspected cannabis cleverly concealed inside.

Follow-up investigations led to the arrest of Millicent Adhiambo and Melvin Achieng, who are believed to be linked to the consignment. The recovered narcotic drugs were seized and preserved as exhibits.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations commends members of the public who continue to volunteer actionable information that is proving invaluable in the fight against narcotics trafficking.
