Detectives from the DCI's Land Fraud Investigation Unit (LFIU) have apprehended a suspect involved in a deceitful land ownership scheme in Kilimani.Β

The individual, Caleb Miheso Ijami, initially lodged a complaint alleging that someone else was claiming his rightful parcel of land measuring approximately 0.2718 hectares along Kilungu Road. Ijami asserted that he acquired the land through a government allocation and had duly paid all required fees.

However, further investigations revealed a different story. Reports from the Director of Land Administration confirmed that the land in question was freehold property and not available for allocation.Β

Moreover, an examination by the Government Printers revealed that the stand premium receipt presented by Ijami was a forgery; it showed a date of issuance as 1996 while actually being printed in 1998. Further, the Chief Land Registrar confirmed that the parcel of land belonged to Miraflores Apartment.

Upon completion of the investigation, the case was forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), which directed that Caleb Miheso Ijami be charged with Conspiracy to Defraud, making a Document without Authority, and Obtaining Registration by False Pretences.

Thanks to meticulous intelligence work, the suspect was trailed and arrested along Aga Khan Walk near KENCOM in Nairobi’s Central Business District. Ijami is currently undergoing processing pending arraignment.

About

The establishment, development and growth of Criminal Investigations Department can be traced to the evolvement of the Kenya Police to which it remains one of the key formations. The first police officers were recruited in 1887 by the Imperial British East Africa Company, I.B.E.A. to provide security for stores in Mombasa. It was from these humble beginnings that the Kenya Police was born.
