Two suspects arrested in connection with a phone-snatching syndicate that has been terrorising Madogo Township and its environs have been detained for 15 days to allow detectives to complete investigations.

Ibrahim Ali and Osman Kulumiye appeared before the Garissa Chief Magistrate's Court yesterday, July 20, 2026, which ordered that they be detained at Garissa Police Station pending the conclusion of investigations.

The duo was arrested during an intelligence-led operation that led to the recovery of 105 assorted mobile phones, two laptops and phone accessories, all suspected to be stolen.Β

Detectives are continuing with investigations to establish the ownership of the recovered devices and pursue any other suspects linked to the syndicate.

About

The establishment, development and growth of Criminal Investigations Department can be traced to the evolvement of the Kenya Police to which it remains one of the key formations. The first police officers were recruited in 1887 by the Imperial British East Africa Company, I.B.E.A. to provide security for stores in Mombasa. It was from these humble beginnings that the Kenya Police was born.
