The DCI Queens capped a remarkable Mozzart Kenya Cup 2026 campaign in style, defeating Kenya Prisons 3-2 in a gripping Women’s bronze medal playoff at the Kasarani Indoor Arena.

Determined to bounce back from Saturday’s semi-final loss to Kenya Pipeline Company, where they went down 3-0 (29-27, 25-16, 25-18), the queens took to the court with renewed purpose. They stamped their authority early, edging the opening two sets 25-22 and 25-23 to move within one set of the podium.

Kenya Prisons, however, mounted a spirited comeback. The warders dominated the third set 25-9 before snatching a fiercely contested fourth set 26-24 to level the match at 2-2 and force a nail-biting decider.

With everything on the line, the fifth set delivered a spectacle worthy of the occasion. Kenya Prisons held a narrow 8-6 advantage at the change of ends, but the DCI Queens refused to be rattled. The contest became a battle of nerves as the scores remained deadlocked at 14-14, 15-15 and 16-16. 

Rising to the moment, the queens produced when it mattered most, holding their composure in the closing exchanges to seal a thrilling 19-17 victory and ignite jubilant celebrations.

The hard-fought win secured a deserved third-place finish and the bronze medal, capping off an impressive campaign defined by resilience, discipline and an unwavering fighting spirit.

Adding another highlight to an unforgettable afternoon, Daisy Letting was named Player of the Match after an outstanding all-round performance that proved instrumental in the Queens’ victory.
