𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗖𝗨𝗥𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧 𝗢𝗙𝗙𝗜𝗖𝗘𝗥 𝗔𝗥𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗗 𝗢𝗩𝗘𝗥 𝗦𝗛𝟲𝟳𝟱,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗙𝗥𝗔𝗨𝗗 

A procurement officer has been detained in connection with a fraudulent scheme that siphoned off Sh675,000 from the Mwai Kibaki Hospital Annex, KNH Othaya in Nyeri County. 

The suspect, Bernard Mutegi, was arrested today in Chuka by detectives from the Serious Crimes Unit (SCU) attached at Kenyatta National Hospital    (KNH).

The investigation unearthed that from June 30, 2022, to November 8, 2023, the suspect allegedly concocted a scheme involving fake delivery notes and payment vouchers in the name of Fesmat Investments. 

These counterfeit documents falsely claimed that aprons had been supplied to the hospital, paving the way for the unlawful payment of KSh 675,000 for goods that were never delivered. 

Upon completion of the investigation, the case file was forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), which approved the prosecution of the suspect with the following charges: Conspiracy to Defraud, Making a Document Without Authority, and Stealing. 

Mutegi is now in custody, undergoing processing pending arraignment. 

In the meantime, detectives have intensified efforts to trail and arrest other suspects linked to the fraudulent scheme who remain at large.
