PAEDOPHILE SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS BEHIND BARS

A 73-year-old Dutch national, Jan IN’T Veld alias Teacher Jan, Dad and Mzungu has been sentenced to a decade in prison for a series of heinous crimes against children. Facing ten charges, including child pornography, sexual communication with minors, indecent acts, and child abuse, Veld’s reign of exploitation came to an end following relentless investigation by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations’ Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Protection Unit (AHTCPU).

The case dates back to November 2023 when AHTCPU detectives received a tip-off that disturbing images had surfaced on social media, showing Veld in a bathroom alongside two naked girls, aged just 7 and 10. This prompted detectives into immediate action.

Sensing that detectives were closing on him, Veld hatched a desperate plan to flee back to the Netherlands. However, his escape was thwarted as AHTCPU officers intercepted and arrested him at the Jomo Kenyatta International airport, marking the beginning of his downfall.

Despite Veld's attempts to compromise key witnesses, including influencing a 17-year-old minor to recant his statement, the prosecution presented overwhelming evidence.

Today the Milimani Children’s Court found Jan IN’T Veld guilty of six counts of child pornography, two counts of sexual communication with a child, one count of committing an indecent act with a child and one count of child abuse.

Consequently, he has been jailed for ten years and fined a total of Sh3 million. In addition to the prison term and fines, the court also ordered him to pay Sh3 million in restitution to the victims, which takes precedence over the fines.

About

The establishment, development and growth of Criminal Investigations Department can be traced to the evolvement of the Kenya Police to which it remains one of the key formations. The first police officers were recruited in 1887 by the Imperial British East Africa Company, I.B.E.A. to provide security for stores in Mombasa. It was from these humble beginnings that the Kenya Police was born.
