ARREST OF TWO SUSPECTS AND RECOVERY OF CANNABIS SATIVA

Two drug trafficking suspects have been arrested and 23 stones of cannabis sativa recovered after law enforcement officers manning a roadblock along the Awasi–Kisumu highway intercepted a motor vehicle ferrying the illegal substance.

The suspects, identified as Hussein Sharif Abdala (52) and Fania Hamisi (23), a Ugandan national, were travelling in a motor vehicle registration number KDP 802C, which was officially assigned to transport sugar. The arrest followed a high-speed chase after the occupants failed to stop when flagged down at the roadblock.

The vehicle was eventually intercepted at the Ngere area along the Kisumu–Kericho highway, where a search led to the recovery of the suspected narcotics.

Both suspects are currently in custody as the exhibits await weighing and sampling ahead of their arraignment in court.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) remains firmly committed to dismantling drug trafficking networks through sustained operations and multi-agency collaboration, with zero tolerance for traffickers regardless of status.

About

The establishment, development and growth of Criminal Investigations Department can be traced to the evolvement of the Kenya Police to which it remains one of the key formations. The first police officers were recruited in 1887 by the Imperial British East Africa Company, I.B.E.A. to provide security for stores in Mombasa. It was from these humble beginnings that the Kenya Police was born.
